Gem and Eye... thing

I was messing around with shading techniques in SAI. So I started doing this head gem design I've had for a while for Thea-lin, and testing out the best way to make it look shiny and kind a painterly. And I tried it without line work and not on a white background (given that Thea is black anyway it just kinda worked out)

And then I required an eye to make it make some sense. I think I might have been able to leave out the boundry of her eye... I maybe reupload this without it.

About... 45 minutes? I wanna say? in SAI, with minor editing in PS for the angle and size of the eye ball
